Product Description:
Calcium Carbonate (CaCO3) appears as white, odorless powder or colorless crystals. Practically insoluble in water. Occurs extensive in rocks world-wide. Ground Calcium Carbonate (CAS 1317-65-3) results directly from the mining of Limestone or Calcite or Marble. The extraction process keeps the Carbonate very close to its original state of purity and delivers a finely ground product either in dry or slurry form. Precipitated Calcium Carbonate (CAS 471-34-1) is produced industrially by the decomposition of limestone to calcium oxide followed by subsequent recarbonization. Precipitated Calcium Carbonate is purer than Ground Calcium Carbonate and has different (and tailorable) handling properties. Calcium Carbonate is a chemical compound with the formula CaCO3. It is a common substance found in rocks as the mineral calcite and aragonite (most notably as limestone, which is a type of sedimentary rock consisting mainly of calcite) and is the main component of eggs, snail shells, seashells and pearls. Calcium Carbonate is the active ingredient in agricultural lime and is created when calcium ions in hard water react with carbonate ions to create limescale. It has medical use as a calcium supplement or as an antacid, but excessive consumption can be hazardous and cause poor digestion.
Application of Calcium Carbonate
Paper, Paints, and Coatings:
Calcium Carbonate is the most widely used mineral in the paper, plastics, paints and coatings industries both as a filler and due to its special white color as a coating pigment. In the paper industry it is valued worldwide for its high brightness and light scattering characteristics, and is used as an inexpensive filler to make bright opaque paper. Filler is used at the wet-end of paper making machines, and Calcium Carbonate filler allows for the paper to be bright and smooth. As an extender, Calcium Carbonate can represent as much as 30% by weight in paints. Calcium Carbonate also is used widely as a filler in adhesives, and sealants.
Rubber Industry, Agricultural, Environment Treatment
Choosing the right type of Calcium Carbonate (top cut control), the customer can achieve cost-effective results by allowing higher Calcium Carbonate fillings without affecting the manufacturing process as well as with the final product. Calcium Carbonate is used to control viscosity, heat expansion coefficient, product shrinkage. In the agricultural sector, mineral diversity is important. Calcium Carbonate is considered as an additive in the production of pesticides and poultry food. Natural calcium Carbonate products are suitable and friendly with the environment.
Calcium Carbonate Applications in Plastics Industry
Calcium Carbonate forms a kind of internal frame structure in plastic products, and greatly improves the dimensional stability of plastic products. It can improve the product hardness, electrical efficiency, flame retardant performance, heat resistance and treatment performance. Calcium Carbonate also helps to improve the gloss and evenness of the product surface. Adding Calcium Carbonate can increase the heat resistance of conventional plastic products. And since it has a whiteness exceeding 90%, calcium carbonate can be used as a whitening agent in place of expensive white pigments.
Building Materials and Construction:
Calcium Carbonate is critical to the construction industry, both as a building material in its own right (for example marble), and as an ingredient of cement. It contributes to the making of mortar used in bonding bricks, concrete blocks, stones, roofing shingles, rubber compounds, and tiles. Calcium Carbonate decomposes to form carbon dioxide and lime, an important material in making steel, glass, and paper. Because of its antacid properties, Calcium Carbonate is used in industrial settings to neutralize acidic conditions in both soil and water.
Personal Health and Food Production
Calcium Carbonate is used widely as an effective dietary calcium supplement, antacid, phosphate binder, or base material for medicinal tablets. It also is found on many grocery store shelves in products such as baking powder, toothpaste, dry-mix dessert mixes, dough, and wine. Calcium Carbonate is the active ingredient in agricultural lime, and is used in animal feed. Calcium Carbonate also benefits the environment through water and waste treatment. Calcium Carbonate Food Grade (Food Additive E170) is used widely as an effective filler in food Industry, etc.
